As the name suggests, turmeric latte is a golden recipe with bright yellow color and many medicinal benefits. Turmeric is the star ingredient of this recipe, and it has been used in India for thousands of years. It adds beautiful color and flavor to recipes. In India, turmeric is known as Haldi. You can drink this recipe in your night routine, especially in winter. It has numerous benefits for skin, bones, body cells, and brain, etc. Hence, it’s essential to learn a little more about this recipe and turmeric.

Health Benefits of Turmeric Latte (Golden Milk): 

  1. Boost Immunity: Turmeric boosts the immunity level in the body. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties, which protect us from a variety of infections. Hence drinking warm golden milk at night helps to treat the common cold and flu.
  2. Reduce Joints pain: Turmeric contains curcumin, which helps in reducing pain. The addition of milk also adds the benefits of many additional vitamins & minerals such as Vitamin D, Vitamin K, calcium, phosphorous, and potassium. These nutrients help in improving bone health.
  3. Antioxidants: Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant, which protects our body from free radicals. They help in neutralizing free radicals by giving up some of their electrons.
  4. Anti-Inflammatory: there are several more benefits of curcumin; it also helps in inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), lipoxygenase (LOX), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), which cause inflammation. 
  5. Anti-aging: Curcumin can prevent the damage of cells and promote new cell growth. It contains the formation of line and wrinkles; hence it is also known for anti-aging properties.

Turmeric Latte Recipe

Number of serves: two 

Cooking Time: 10-15 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. Ginger paste/Ginger powder– 1 tsp
  2. Turmeric paste/Turmeric powder– 1tsp
  3. Black Pepper– 1 pinch
  4. Milk- 2 cups (Approx. 250ml)- Toned or full cream milk/cashew milk/almond milk

Kitchen Ware:

  1. Pan
  2. Spatula
  3. Heating equipment
  4. Pestle mortar or anything to grind black pepper
  5. Grater- optional

  Direction:

  1. Grate one teaspoon of turmeric root and one teaspoon of fresh ginger.
  2. Ground 4-5 black pepper seeds in a pestle mortar.
  3. Take a pan and pour two cups of milk into the pan.
  4. Add one teaspoon turmeric powder or fresh turmeric paste in milk.
  5. Also, add one-teaspoon new ginger paste or ginger powder in milk.
  6. Add one pinch of black pepper for better absorption of turmeric.
  7. Mix all ingredients with the help of a spatula.
  8. Boil the milk for 10-12 minutes at medium heat.
  9. Strain the milk and pour the hot turmeric latte in a cup.
  10. If you like your milk sweet, you can add honey/Sugar or any other sweetener of your choice.
  11. For added health benefits, you can also add clove, cinnamon, and cardamom.

I am drinking turmeric latte (haldi doodh) since my childhood and back then, I never understood the value of this healthy recipe. Such recipes are gifts from our ancestors, and we need to pass this on to the future generation.
